A music festival returned to Llanfyllin after six years away as the Workhouse Party made a comeback over the weekend.

Music, workshops, dancing, camping, food and drink were all on offer at Llanfyllin’s Workhouse from Friday, June 21, to Sunday, June 23, as the festival returned to celebrate 20 years since the event was first held and the first one in six years.

After some concerns that that the party would have to be scaled down or cancelled entirely if not enough tickets were purchased during the planning stages, the organisers made a plea via social media for more pre-orders and successfully passed the required threshold of sales for the event to go ahead as planned.

Sian Walters from Arts Connection, a group that helped put the event together, said: “Solstice weekend saw the return of the Workhouse Party. It's been six years since the last one, but we now have a young crew who are learning to manage a big weekend event: it's very exciting to see so many talented people bringing the Party back to life.

“There were three stages and a DJ room showcasing a fabulous programme of DJs. The Gallery stage hosted bands mostly from Wales, one rock band came last minute from Scotland, Paperhouse finished the programme with an absolutely fantastic set. Mascot Moth also launched their new album at the event on the Gallery stage.

“The Courtyard stage  featured musicians from our area such as Elin Gittins and the border band who brought us a Celidh for the whole family. The wonderful Dr Palfi compared and brought us humour between acts, the quality and diversity of music was wonderful.

“The village green area in the grounds hosted a Dub Shack bringing a host of DJs and there was an invitation to people to bring their vinyls to share their favourite music.

“Sunday was open day and featured a lineup of local legends. Pete Beresford and friends, Dan from Poolside tricks joined up with a new line up but played some of his well-loved tunes and Pablo played a retrospective set in the Dub Shack.
