A Welshpool business owner he is more concerned with the injuries caused after an accident at his shop than the damage to the property.

Shai Edginton and Amanda Thompson, who run a board games and collectibles shop in Welshpool named Cosmic Collectibles, woke up on Sunday, June 23 to find that the glass of their front door completely smashed.

They were informed that the damage had been caused after someone was pushed through the pane of glass, coincidentally happening exactly one year after the couple first opened the business on 23 June 2023.

Speaking while he was busy repairing the door, co-owner Mr Edginton said: “We found out on the Sunday after getting a call from the police to tell us what had happened.

“Obviously I don’t know the full story of what happened exactly, so don’t want to speculate, but from what we’ve been told and what I can tell it seems to be an accident.

“There’s nothing missing from the shop, so we knew right away that it wasn’t a robbery or break in, just the broken glass on the door which I think is why the police also believe it’s an accident.”

The couple first moved to Welshpool from London two years ago with an ambition to open a physical shop for their successful online business.

Having finally found their ideal premises in May 2023, they began a quick moving process to fill the shop with stock and set up the space they wanted.

Mr Edginton added: “It was quite the anniversary present to say the least. Overall it’s been a fantastic first year and we’re pleased with how it’s gone. From working late I have noticed a bit of rowdy behaviour on the streets but that’s likely to be the case in almost any town or city, especially on lively nights.

“It’s annoying to wake up to damage like this, but it’s definitely the only bit of trouble we’ve had over a very good first year in business.

“One of the people involved did reach out to apologise and offer to pay for a replacement, so it’s good to get some resolution over what happened.

“I’m far more concerned for the person who fell through the glass and was injured. A pane of glass can be replaced but any injury from going through it is far more serious.”
