Nestled in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside the Powys border, lies what is described as "one of the country's seven wonders" that has to be seen to be believed.

In Wales we are blessed with rolling green hills, dramatic coastlines, and ancient castles - there is a picturesque backdrop wherever you go.

But there are some locations that are a little more off the beaten track described by some as "hidden gems".

Some of these places are so incredible you won't believe they exist.

The Powys waterfall "you won't believe exists"

Pistyll Rhaeadr - located close to the Powys border with North Wales - has been described by TikTok user UK Hidden Gems as one of the best landmarks in Wales "you won't believe exists".

The "enchanting" waterfall is located in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside Powys, west of Oswestry (see the map below).

At 240ft (80m) it is Britain's tallest single-drop waterfall, according to the Pistyll Rhaeadr website.

If you are looking to pay a visit to the waterfall there is a small car park at the foot along with a small café.

When it comes to walking paths up to Pistyll Rhaedar, there is a moderate "out-and-back" route which is about 1.3km in length and takes about 35 minutes, according to the AllTrails - one of the most trusted and used outdoor platforms/apps in the world and recently named Apple's iPhone App of the Year.

Those who have visited the hidden gem in Powys seem to agree with the high praise for Pistyll Rhaeadr with the waterfall boasting a 4 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor from 764 reviews (at the time of writing).

One person described it as "the best" and "one of the country's seven wonders".
