BUILTH Wells’ Tourist Information Centre will soon have new residents, after lying dormant for many years.

Builth Wells Community Support (BWCS) has taken on the former TIC building, located centrally on the Groe.

The building, situated adjacent to the town’s main car park and public toilets, closed in its original guise long ago and has remained largely empty since, but is set to be given a new lease of life by the town’s popular community group.

“Exciting news for the community. We have taken on the old TIC building on the Groe and will be opening it as a community building, once refurbishment is completed,” announced BWCS on its Facebook page this week.

“It will be available for groups to use for regular or occasional sessions. Community support will also be running drop-in sessions for anyone to call in and have a chat.”

And BWCS is calling on the local community to come up with a name for the new building.

“We hope this will become a valuable asset to the community – but it needs a name,” continued the post.

“We would prefer not ‘hub’ or ‘hive’ as there are so many of them, so please have a think and either email suggestions or comment on this post – please be polite and helpful.”

Many suggestions have since poured in, including Here 4 You, Helping Hands, Help, Meet and Chat Centre, Gro Together, Calon Cymuned (Heart of the Community), Builth Connect, Heart of Builth and Builth Community Centre.
