A Powys based autism care professional has been called the most "Inspirational Care Home Worker" in the UK.

Support worker Carol Morgan, who works for Orbis Education and Care, took the coveted title at the Stars of Social Care Awards 2024.

The awards recognises people who show a passion in promoting independence, choice and dignity through high-quality, person-centred care.

Ms Morgan has been making a 20-mile daily commute from Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, for the last 15 years, to provide support to the young people at Ty Bronllys near Brecon.

Orbis Education and Care offers a variety of residential and educational learning solutions, part-time or full-time, to children living with autism.

The award was presented at a special ceremony in London by Josie Gibson, one of the presenters of ITV’s This Morning programme.

Ms Morgan said: "I have an unwavering passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential, and even being nominated for the award filled me with pride.

"Never did I expect to win, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity and recognition.

"Reflecting on my last 15 years at Orbis, I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it, and I truly believe that it is an honour to be a Support Worker."

Ms Morgan came out on top ahead of nine other care workers based UK-wide to take the 2024 award.

Emma Arnold, home manager at Ty Bronllys, praised Ms Morgan and her contribution to the centre.

Ms Arnold said: "Carol has worked at Ty Bronllys for 15 years and I’ve been fortunate to work with her for nine of those.

"She really is a true inspiration and has dedicated so much of her time to supporting staff and learners at Ty Bronllys over the years.

"Carol is a supportive and friendly person who has gone above and beyond the remit of her role during her time with Orbis Education and Care and I really can’t think of anyone else more deserving of this award.

"Thank you for everything Carol, you truly are amazing!"

Orbis Education and Care is one of the leading specialist providers in the UK, operating 37 schools, residential homes, and day facilities for children and adults with autism-related complex needs.
