HSBC has confirmed that its Llandrindod Wells branch will be closing next month… but only temporarily while refurbishments are carried out.
News has filtered through to spa town residents this week that the Middleton Street branch – the flats above which were found to be housing a massive cannabis farm in April – will be closing in July, for around a month, while new machines are installed.
Llandrindod has lost all but one of its big name high street banks in recent years, including Barclays, Lloyds and Santander, but HSBC says it is committed to the town.
Wendy Morrice, HSBC UK’s local director, said: “We continue to invest in our branch network to make our customers’ experience banking with us a good one.

“We are pleased that our Llandrindod Wells branch is getting a refresh, with some painting, new signage and the installation of new state-of-the-art cash machines, which we are excited about.”
The branch will close on Friday, July 19, and is expected to re-open on Wednesday, August 21.
“At the end of 2023, we committed to announcing no new branch closures in 2024,” said a spokesperson.
“We have also said publicly that we believe we have broadly the right size of branch network in the UK.
“We are investing in our Llandrindod Wells branch, which will undergo a refresh from mid-July, which is a sign of our commitment to the town.”
Ms Morrice added: “We are starting to talk to our customers about the temporary closure, and while we are having the work done people can continue to use their nearest Post Office for day to day transactions, plus mobile and online banking is available 24/7 in addition to being able to call our contact centre.
“We will also be hosting a community pop up event at Llandrindod Wells Library where we will be on hand to support customers on July 24, 26 and 31, as well as August 2, 7 and 9, between 10am and 2pm.
Customers can also continue to use any of our branches, with Newtown being the closest branch.”
