A QUARRY fall in Llanymynech led to a multi-emergency service response including firefighters, land and air ambulance and police on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a crew from Welshpool was sent to Pen y Foel in Llanymynech on the Powys/Shropshire border at around 6pm.

They were joined by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) colleagues from Shrewsbury to an incident where someone fell around 22 feet into a quarry and were left with back and leg injuries.

The spokesman said: “At 6.05pm on Tuesday, June 18, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Welshpool Fire Station were called to an incident on Pen Y Foel, Llanymynech. 

“Crews responded to a person that had fallen approximately 22ft into a quarry and was left leg and back injuries. Shrewsbury Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. 

“The casualty was successfully retrieved from the quarry and taken to hospital via land ambulance. 

“Crews left the scene at 8.20pm.”

A spokesman for the Wales Air Ambulance service confirm that a Welshpool crew was sent to the scene but did not confirm what action was required, confirming only that crew spent around 90 minutes there.

They said: “I can confirm that the Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident in that region yesterday (Tuesday) evening.

“Our Welshpool-based crew were allocated at 6pm and attended by air.

“They arrived at the scene at 6.20pm – our involvement concluded at 7.51pm.”

According to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, police and ambulance staff were present at the scene for the incident.
