A MAN from Powys is to be sentenced following a serious incident at HMP Berwyn.

Kieran Wilkins, of Newgate Street in Brecon, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday morning.

The 25-year-old admitted that on November 24 last year, he unlawfully caused grievous bodily harm with intent.

It took place at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham, against victim Anthony Curry.

Richard Edwards, defending, asked the court to consider adjourning the sentence for a pre-sentence report.

He said: "The defendant realises and knows it will assist the court in terms of the length of sentence.

"There is some considerable background regarding his mental health, which he's having treatment for.

Judge Niclas Parry agreed to adjourn the sentence to July 4 at Caernarfon Crown Court, in order for probation officers to prepare a progress report about the defendant based on his ongoing interaction with the service.

The Judge told him: "You're going to be given significant credit for pleading guilty to such a serious offence so early and that will make a big difference to your sentence.

"We already know quite a bit about you because we've had reports in the past from probation, but let's have an up to date one."

Wilkins was remanded in custody until the sentencing date.
