The official launch event of The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society happened this week, meaning the countdown is on.

The Society held its Official Launch of the 2024 Royal Welsh Show at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth on June 12.

Scheduled to take place from July 22 to 25 at the iconic showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, the Show attracts more than 200,000 visitors.

Chair of council, Nicola Davies opened and said: "Where better for a Cardi to celebrate such a milestone than the place where our story started?

"And we are most grateful to the National Library of Wales for assisting us as we tell our story."

The event marked the opening of the ‘Tipyn o Sioe’ exhibition, a collection of photographs showcasing the evolution of agriculture over the decades.

Show director Richard Price detailed some attractions including the relaunch of the horticulture section.

He said: "We will be launching our new Horticultural Village which will be a celebration of community and commercial growing."

A unique Main Ring display to mark the Society’s 120th anniversary is also anticipated at the event.

Other highlights include a Heavy Horse Display and the JCB Dancing Diggers, making a comeback after a decade.

For the first time in five years, a poultry show will be included, following the easing of Avian Flu restrictions.

Mr Price concluded by saying: "We’re pleased with a strong entry across all livestock sections, with almost 7,000 animals being exhibited over the 4 days."

Finally, the Chair of the Board of Directors, Professor Wynne Jones shared his thanks to the National Library of Wales.
