A new plaque will be unveiled at the birthplace of Welsh textile manufacturer, philanthropist and social reformer Robert Owen.

A special event will be held at the HSBC Bank in Newtown’s Broad Street from 11am on Monday, June 17.

Newtown Mayor Councillor Mike Childs will attend the event along with pupils from the new Ysgol Robert Owen, formerly known as Ysgol Cedewain, together with Robert Owen Museum officers and Newtown Local History Group who funded and donated the plaque.

This year marks the 100th anniversary since Robert Owen’s birthplace being demolished for the bank and the 95th anniversary of the Robert Owen Memorial Museum which was originally located on the top floor of the building.
