A WELSHPOOL man has escaped an immediate driving ban after he was clocked driving at just shy of 30 miles an hour over the speed limit in a Powys village.
Daniel Scott Hinton was observed driving his Volkswagen Transporter on the A483 at Arddleen, north of Welshpool, at a speed of 79mph in a 50mph zone, on November 19 last year.
The 27-year-old had admitted speeding by post but was asked to attend a hearing at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 5, due to his high speed.
Hinton, of Brookfield Road, Welshpool, handed magistrates a letter from his employer, outlining how an instant ban would affect his career.

He told the court: “I just wasn’t looking at my speed, I was just looking at the road.
“I slowed down but it was too late. It’s a big, long road.”
Owning a full clean licence, Hinton added: “There was a lot going on at the time.”
Magistrates allowed Hinton to keep his licence, handing him six points. They also fined him £461 and told him to pay a £184 surcharge and £85 costs.
