A Welshpool councillor has called for the county council to take better care of the town’s historic Wiggly Path.

As the issue of whether Welshpool’s Wiggly Path will remain open continues, Cllr Graham Breeze has called for Powys Council to maintain the path and keep it free of overgrowth while it is under the authority's ownership.

The path, which runs from Red Bank to the town centre, has had its future as a listed public right of way in doubt over the past few years.

Commenting on the current state of the path, Cllr Breeze wrote on social media: “Ardwyn Wiggly Path is overgrown. It is still owned by Powys County Council and I have asked that it is cut back as soon as possible.”

OTHER NEWS:

In May 2023 Powys County Council erected signs on the route, informing that public access to the footpath was prohibited, but they were quickly removed amid a public outcry.

Welshpool Town Council had previously put forward a bit to take ownership of the path, arguing that it should be maintained as a public right of way.

Cllr Nick Howells said in September: “We have put in a declaration of interest, trying to have the iconic route retained as part of the town.

"I have expressed interest to have an asset transfer so we could hang onto it rather than have the site auctioned off to someone who wouldn’t maintain the path.”
