Information on the UK’s driving test centres obtained by DayInsure, one of the UK’s leading providers of short term car insurance, has named Newtown as being one of the ten best driving test centres in the Uk by its pass rates.

The study puts Newtoan seventh in the UK, making it the number one spot in Wales.

According to the pass rate data collected by DayInsure, 66.7 percent of drviing tests carried out at Newtown resulted in a pass, with at least six out of ten learners getting their license there.

This is higher than the overall pass rate across the UK, as the average practical driving pass rate from all 328 test centres in the most recent data, 2023/24, was 48 percent.

While many centres included in the top ten were from rurual areas, DayInsure reportedly added an additional filter to the data, and removed the smaller centres where only a low volume of tests was conducted. Their final poll only included test centres that had conducted 250 practical tests or more in the last year.

Another Powys centre also topped the poll for Wales in a different area, as Builth Wells was named the most fruitful location for learners looking to pass their theory test in Wales based on DayInsure’s data, with around half of learners reportedly finding success there as 48 percent were shown to pass.

Commenting on the data, Nicholas Shaw, Director of Operations at Dayinsure said: “It is clear to see that driving test pass rates fluctuate up and down the country, and learners in some areas may also struggle to find an instructor in time to start their driving lessons on time.”
