Firefighters have tackled a large fire on the side of a hill near Presteigne.

Around 74 acres (30 hectares) of gorse was on fire on Hanter Hill in the Walton area on Thursday evening (June 6).

Crews from Presteigne and Herefordshire were at the scene, according to the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters responded at about 10.40pm and left shortly before 9.15am on Friday (June 7).

'Not a danger to properties'

In a statement, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire was slow-moving and was not a danger to any nearby properties.

"Crews monitored the fire front and the fire eventually burnt out on natural fire breaks.

"Crews continued to monitor for hot spots before leaving the scene at 9.13am on Friday, June 7."

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Kington Fire Station was called at 10.14pm to smoke in the area at Upper Hanter, Walton, Presteigne.

"Crews maintained a watching brief before handing the incident over to the Mid and West Wales Fire Service in whose area the incident occurred," a spokesperson for the fire service added.
