The race for the seat in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe has been marked as too “close to call” in a recent poll.

The poll undertaken by ITV Cymru shows that the seat held by Fay Jones since 2019 is on a knife-edge between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives - with the latter party forecast to be left with only one seat in Wales.

That would be in Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr, where Craig Williams is expected to be returned as MP for a third term as the local member representing the north of the county.

The report comes on the heels of a recent poll by YouGov which showed the Lib Dems trailing the Conservatives in the constituency by just 3 per cent.

Liberal Democrat Candidate for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe David Chadwick said: “Poll after poll is showing we are the challengers to the Conservatives in this seat.

“A vote for Labour or Plaid Cymru in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe is a vote to let the Conservatives back in."

Ms Jones has been bullish in her campaign and said: “I’ll be out knocking on as many doors as I can between now and then, talking to voters and reminding them of the choice we face

“I’m proud of my record - whether saving Brecon Barracks, fighting industrial scale wind farms or securing tens of millions of public investment in Brecon and Radnorshire - as well as serving thousands of constituents.”

If the results played out it would see current government chief whip Simon Hart and Welsh secretary David TC Davies lose their seats with only Montgomeryshire’s Craig Williams remaining in the entirety of Wales.

The poll found that the support for the Conservatives in Wales had halved since the last election from 36 per cent to 18 per cent.

Dr Jac Larner, from Cardiff University's Welsh Governance Centre, told ITV that “as it stands, the odds of a return to the 1997-2005 period of no Conservative MPs in Wales are roughly the same as a coin flip."
