A POWYS motorist previously banned for drug driving will be disqualified for more than three years after being convicted of drink driving.

Annan Brennan Morley, 24, from Presteigne, was stopped by police in Builth Wells on May 19 driving a Ford Transit van.

He was arrested after providing a positive roadside breath test on Strand Street. At Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 5, he entered a guilty plea to drink driving.

“Police stopped a blue Ford Transit in Builth at around 7.20pm,” said prosecutor James Ashton.

OTHER NEWS:

“The driver’s speech was slurred and his eyes glazed. A roadside test was positive and he was arrested.”

Mr Ashton said Morley had one previous conviction, a drug driving offence dating back to 2020, for which he received a 12-month ban.

The reading provided by Morley was 56 micrograms of alcohol in breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Owain Jones, defending Morley, of Green End, Lion Yard, Presteigne, said: “He is sorry for many reasons.

“He’s gutted he’ll be punished and he is remorseful. He knows it was a silly mistake.

“He had been with friends, there was some pressure to drive, but he knows that’s not a good reason.”

Mr Jones said labourer Morley had cooperated fully with police. “The length of ban will affect his employment, but he hopes to keep his job,” said Mr Jones.

County Times:

“He has sympathetic employers. This is his first drink drive offence.”

Magistrates banned Morley for 39 months, but he can reduce this if he completes a drink drive rehabilitation course.

He was fined £350 and ordered to pay a £140 surcharge and £85 costs.
