The winning team were all part of the Game Change Project, a non-profit organisation based at Mid Wales Off Road, Aberhafesp

The challenge involved teenagers who attend the project designing and building a soap box style go-kart as part of their course.

The project aims to “support young people to raise their aspirations, build confidence and improve well-being by taking part in fun and engaging outdoor activities.”

They have found that such activities “develop essential life skills like communication, problem solving and team working.”

The group all recently entered the ‘Krazy races’ event in Shrewsbury.

The theme was based on the children’s book ‘Cat in a Hat’ featuring the Doctor Seuss quote “Why fit in when you were born to stand out”, adopted by the project as their strapline.

The group was competing against twenty teams, representing major businesses and charities from all over Shropshire and the Midlands.

After "a nail biting final", the Game Change team were ecstatic to be crowned overall winners.

A spokesperson for the project said: “It was amazing to see the young people being rewarded for their team spirit, determination and ingenuity, especially as they are often overlooked in the mainstream academic system.

“Each year, The Game Change Project provides a lifeline for more than 100 disengaged young people in Powys by providing a practical, outdoor learning environment where they can develop the confidence, motivation and skills to grow, thrive and contribute to mid Wales”.
