A POWYS pub that reopened last December after being shut for 10 years has been forced to close just seven months later.

Rhayader’s Black Lion pub announced on Friday, May 31, that it was shutting due to circumstances “beyond our control”.

“With a heavy heart and deep regret, we must announce the closure of the Black Lion bar,” the pub said in a post on its Facebook post.

“Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances beyond our control have led us to this difficult decision.

“We want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported us over the past 7 months.

“Your loyalty, patronage and enthusiasm have meant the world to us. We have cherished the moments shared, the memories created and the community that we have built together.

“The Black Lion wouldn't have been the same without your presence and support.

“While this chapter may be coming to an end, the memories and connections forged within these walls will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

“We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of your lives and the local community.”

The pub hastily announced a farewell gathering that took place on Friday evening, as the landlords hoped to go “out with a bang”.

“As we prepare to close our doors, we invite you to join us for a final farewell gathering on 31st May for a karaoke evening with Neil Rees,” continued the post.

“Let's reminisce, celebrate and bid adieu to the Black Lion bar in a memorable way.

“Once again, thank you for being a part of our journey. Your support has been the cornerstone of our establishment, and we will always treasure the moments we have shared with you.”

Despite a brief attempt in 2015 to re-open the North Street pub, which only lasted a few weeks, the Black Lion had been closed for the last 10 years.

The doors reopened on December 1. The pub had been operating as an Indian takeaway and restaurant for the last few years, known as the Spice Hut, and the Black Lion owners revealed the Spice Hut would remain on the premises and Indian cuisine would still be available at the pub.
