Machynlleth Community Church are organising a series of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. 

On Wednesday, June 5, and Thursday, June 6, the community church will mark eight decades since the historic day that marked a turning point in the Second World War. 

Starting on June 5, the commemoration will feature an exhibit at the church in Heol Pen’Rallt, which will be open from 10am to 3pm.

Then on June 6, the anniversary of the Normandy landings, a reflection and thanksgiving service will be held in the church between 7pm and 8.15pm, complete with an illustrated talk on the event. 

Taking place in 1944, D-Day was the largest seaborne invasion in history as 24,000 Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of France as part of an operation that began the liberation of France and the rest of Western Europe, and laid the foundations for the end of World War 2 in Europe. 

The church’s exhibition will also be open on Thursday, open between 4.30pm and 7pm.
