THE community of Rhayader is gearing up to host its 120th carnival later this summer, and the carnival queen has been announced.

This year’s queen is 14-year-old Emily Lewis, from Nantmel.

Emily is a pupil at Ysgol Calon Cymru in Llandrindod Wells and is an active member in Rhayader YFC, where she has gained many awards especially for her flower arranging.

Her attendants will be Charlie Evans, Lily-Jayne Evans, Courtney Fowlie, Aria Howard, Dion Watkins, Lola-Grace Jackson, Fflur Bennetts and Madison Steele.

This year Rhayader Carnival Week kicks off on Sunday, July 14.

There will be a week-long list of evening events, including the ever so popular Gwastedyn Hill Race, as well as quizzes, ‘It’s a Knock Out’ competition and much more.

Carnival day 2024 will be on Saturday, July 20.
