A Machynlleth pub celebrated the tenth anniversary of their annual beer and ale festival, with the organiser calling it a “busy and successful”.

The White Lion Hotel's annual Machynlleth beer festival welcomed visitors and community members headed down to the festival between Friday, May 24, and Sunday, May 26, for drink and entertainment.

The drinks featured in the festival were a selection of cask ales, beers and ciders from local and regional brewers, while the entertainment was also sourced locally in the form of bands and performers such as Silver Doll, Wordwide Welshman, Cartoon Violence and Tabby Kendall.

White Lion landlord and head of the festival, Alan Murphy, said: “Our 2024 festival was very good overall. We slimmed down a bit from previous years purely because the Urdd was happening around the same time and we understood many people would be heading there.

“However we remained very busy and successful for our event, which made for a really good weekend.

“We had a selection of ten ales for attendees to sample, as well as other drinks and plenty of entertainment.

“The event began as an ale festival, but we understand that drink doesn’t sell as well as it used to, so we’ve expanded to emphasise the beer, cider and music as well.

“We saw some strong local support, the weather was fairly kind to us all weekend and we’re finding the levels of attendance getting back to normal after the few years we took off because of the pandemic.

“We’re already planning for next year and looking to expand even further.”
