A POWYS woman must make sure her dog is kept under proper control or she will be forced to put it down.

An order was made against Rosamund Sulyak, 81, at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court earlier this month, following an incident that was described as a neighbour dispute.

Dyfed Powys Police had brought the complaint against Sulyak following the incident, which happened outside her Tawe Park home, in Ystradgynlais, on March 14, 2023.

The force said Sulyak was the owner of a dog which was dangerous and was not kept under proper control, having bit a member of the public.

Nia Jones, prosecuting on behalf of Dyfed Powys Police, told magistrates on Wednesday, May 22, that the complaint concerned Sulyak’s collie dog, named Tiggy.

She said: “On March 14 Mrs Glover was standing outside the property holding her dog. Tiggy escaped through front door and jumped up at the complainant.

“The victim says she looked down and Tiggy’s teeth were in her hand. She had to go to hospital for treatment.

“There is now secure fencing in place (at Sulyak’s home). She is walked appropriately using a head collar.”

The force applied for an order that the dog is to be kept under proper control or destroyed.

Catherine McGachie, representing Sulyak, said: “There was a dispute over injuries. Tiggy’s known the complainant since she was a pup.

“The skin might have been caught by a paw. Everyone agrees Tiggy is not a dangerous dog. A neighbour dispute is the background to this.”

Magistrates agreed the order, which was also agreed to by the defendant.

Police had previously sought a contingent destruction order, but Sulyak disputed this, leading to a contested hearing being required.
