Wales international and Burnley player Maria Francis-Jones kicked off Llanidloes Junior Football Club's 24-hour charity event last weekend.

Organisers said the fundraiser for a number of charities was a "huge success and very well supported".

The Llanidloes star helped the under-fives team start the event on Friday (May 24) followed by all the other age groups.

The adult then played through the night into Saturday (May 25) before the children continued the following morning until the final whistle at 5pm.

Several local businesses sponsored each hour played and Mark Dymond Plastering & Renovation specialist and Ventient Energy sponsored the shirts.

Money raised from the event will go towards the junior football club, as well as the Stroke Association and local food banks.

As well as the match itself, spectators enjoyed several events being held alongside the marathon match, such as live music on the Friday night and a fun day, featuring stalls and inflatables throughout Saturday.

Supporters shared kind messages on social media praising the fundraising event and its organisers.

Lynda Williams described the match as a “great achievement”, while Diane Williams thanked the club for hosting “an amazing event”.

Rowan Jones added: “Well done to all involved in making this happen. [It] was [an] absolutely brilliant event and atmosphere.”
