The A483 between Four Crosses and Welshpool is closed while repairs are made to fix a burst water main.
The road, which closed at 11pm on Tuesday evening, is expected to reopen “around lunch time” today (Wednesday, May 29), according to water company Hafren Dyfrdwy.
Diversion signs in place for motorists travelling in the area.
Hafren Dyfrdwy said the road closure "may cause some travel disruption" to people travelling to the Urdd Eisteddfod near Meifod and are urging people to plan their journey.
“Our teams are on site and will be busy working through the night to repair the burst as soon as they can,” said Hafren Dyfrdwy in a message shared on social media by Eisteddfod yr Urdd Maldwyn.
“We appreciate that with the Eisteddfod Yr Urdd, Maldwyn this may cause some travel disruption so we are wanting to let people know as soon as possible so they can plan their journey appropriately.”
The Urdd has also asked visitors to the festival near Meifod to allow adequate travel time when heading to the Eisteddfod today.
Traffic monitoring website Inrix confirmed that traffic is slow in the area with the A483 closed in both directions due to emergency water main repairs from The Horseshoe Inn to the Llandrinio turn-off.
