Llanfyllin Town Council have set up a special committee to manage running the Cae Bodfach community field if they take ownership.

Llanfyllin Town Council wants to buy the community field of Cae Bodfach, a space used for several events and residents of the town, a specialist committee has been set up to manage the area.

The move comes as the council has been planning to take ownership of the field, after former Bodfach Hall owner Simon Baynes MP opted to sell the space but gave the town council first refusal to buy the field that has been leased to the town for a peppercorn rent for the past 10 years.

Writing on social media, a spokesperson for the council said: “To meet our duties as custodians and the responsible authority for the field the Town Council have set up the Cae Bodfach Management Committee.

“Any groups or individuals who are looking to run events or activities on the field need to contact the Committee as there’s now some paperwork needed in advance.  Please contact the committee on caebodfach@llanfyllin.town for further information.”

Llanfyllin councillor Andrew Griffin clarified: “The Council Committee will be composed of Town Councillors, who are responsible to the whole Council for the management of Cae Bodfach field going forward, both whilst we rent the field and when we hopefully secure it’s purchase.

“This Committee will hold regular liaison meetings with the other organisations in the Town that have an interest in or regularly use the field.”

The council has been aiming to raise £80,000 to buy the field so it can continue to be used as a public space and host events like the annual Cae Bodfach Mini festival.

After a successful 2023 event, organisers of the festival announced that the 2024 instalment had been pushed back from its original date in April to August 31 as a result of the waterlogged state of the field.
