It is no secret that the Welsh Labour Government’s imposition of their 20mph speed limit has faced fierce opposition right across Wales.
With a staggering and unprecedented 469,571 signatures in a Senedd petition calling for its repeal, the public’s discontent has been made crystal clear.
The 20mph restriction has proven to be a significant inconvenience for many, impacting daily commutes, local businesses, and overall traffic flow in our rural communities.
The blanket implementation failed to consider the specific needs and characteristics of different areas in Mid Wales. It’s hardly surprising this draconian law has created so much opposition.

Earlier this month, the Welsh Government invited public views to overturn their highly unpopular 20mph speed limits in our area, by writing to our local council.
I now urge local people to email Powys County Council and share your views on this matter. Let them know how this restriction has negatively impacted you and your community. You can email your views to: traffic@powys.gov.uk, and make sure you copy in your County Councillor into the message, so they fully understand the strength of local sentiment.
Also, ensure to explain clearly to the council why the 20mph restriction should be revoked in your locale.
Together, we can demand change by making our voices heard.
We need appropriate speed limits tailored to our community’s needs to ensure both safety and convenience.
Let’s stand together to find a more practical and sensible approach and reject Cardiff Bay diktat.
We know what’s best for Powys - not them!
