The owners of a newsagents in Machynlleth, who have been running the shop for more than 20 years, have announced that it will be closing this summer.
Mr News, a shop on Machynlleth’s Penrallt Street that serves as a newsagents while also selling greeting cards, confectionary, gifts and more, announced that they would be closing their doors for good on June 30.
The closure is reportedly the result of the current Mr News owners selling the business and its buyers opting not to continue running the newsagents.
Customers have been told that the building’s ATM would remain in place for town residents to use for cash withdrawals.
The business made the announcement on social media on Monday, May 20, as co-owners Martin and Lorraine Jones issued a statement on behalf of the business and its staff.

The family first took ownership of the Mr News shop 22 years ago, and thanked town residents for a “fantastic” few decades as an independent supplier of Machynlleth’s news and accessories.
“It is with great regret that Mr. News will close its doors for the final time on Sunday, June 30, 2024," the family said.
“We have sold the property and unfortunately the new owners do not wish to carry on the business.
“Lorraine, Martin, Eva, Nia and the staff would like to say a big thank you to you all for your loyal and valued custom over the last 22 years.
“Unfortunately, all outstanding accounts need to be settled in full by Saturday the 29th of June 2024. For which I thank you for your cooperation.
“Finally, it has been a fantastic 22 years that has passed in a blink of an eye. So we wish you all the best and no doubt we will see you all around town.”
Several customers and former employees left comments beneath the post to wish the owners good luck for the future and share how much the shop meant to the community.
One wrote: "Machynlleth will never be the same again. You never let us down. Many, many thanks."
Another added: "Good luck to you all. I will never forget the early start paper round days. Martin always in a perky good mood ready for the day. Top bloke. Good luck all."
