THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for large parts of mid Wales today.
The yellow warning for thunderstorms is in place from 1pm until 8pm today (May 18) and is expected to cause some flooding and disruption.
The warning covers Newtown, Llanidloes and all of Radnorshire and the Brecon Beacons, but just misses Welshpool and Montgomery.
The Met Office is predicting that up to 50mm of rain could fall and has warned the public what to expect:
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that some communities are temporarily cut off by flooded roads
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Scattered slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop across parts of Wales and southwest England during Saturday afternoon.
"Whilst many places will see little or no rainfall, some locations could see 20-30 mm in an hour or two. There is a small chance that repeated shower development could result in a few places seeing 40-50 mm.
"Showers and thunderstorms will gradually fade during Saturday evening."
