Powys MSs James Evans and Jane Dodds are stepping up to compete for the inaugural ‘Senedd Dog of the Year 2024’ title.
On May 23, the Mss will be calling on their constituents for canine support.
Mr Evans and Ms Dodds, Members of the Senedd (MSs) for Brecon and Radnorshire and Mid and West Wales, respectively, will join other MSs and their dogs at Brittania Park in Cardiff.
Organised jointly by The Kennel Club and Dogs Trust, this event aims to highlight the unique bond between owners and their four-legged companions and follows the success of the Westminster and Holyrood Dog of the Year competitions.
Mr Evans and his Cocker Spaniel Bonnie are among those eager contenders looking to clinch the coveted 'Pawblic' vote.
Ms Dodds and her Greyhound Wanda are also in the race for the prestigious title.
Dog owners of all 'pawlitical' persuasions are invited to strut their stuff alongside their canine companions.
From Jack Sargeant and his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Coco to Janet Finch-Saunders and her Welsh Collie Alfie, the competition is heating up.
And not forgetting Darren Millar and his Whippet Blue, who are hoping to run circles around the opponents.
Apart from the public vote, a panel of judges will review contestants on their good dog deeds and winning personalities on the day.
But only one lucky MS and their pet can expect to bag the highly anticipated ‘Senedd Dog of the Year 2024’ crown.
Not only is the event set to be a exciting spectacle, it importantly encourages dialogue on dog welfare issues and promotes responsible dog ownership.
This initiative aims to ensure that pet owners fully recognise their responsibility in ensuring their pets are positive members of the community who lead happy, healthy lives.

The finale of this event also presents a unique chance allowing MSs to engage with experts and discuss all aspects revolving around the canine world.
As the clock ticks down to the big day, constituents are being asked to support their local representatives.
