Three Powys parents took part in a 5k mud run as a way to raise money for a Mid Wales childcare and education centre.

Committee members of Cylch Meithrin Pontrobert, near Meifod, took part in a 5k mud run to fundraise towards continuing to run the small village preschool that provides support to local families. 

Eleanor Langford, Lowri Griffiths, and Natasha Rowe took part in the Shrewsbury Mud Run on Saturday, April 27, with the aim of raising £600 for Cylch Meithrin Pontrobert.

They ran through ditches, bogs, ankle twisting fields, ponds and brooks. They army crawled through dark tunnels and clambered their way up steep hills to be faced with the only way down, being soaked on a water slide.

Natasha said: "This year hasn't been the warmest so as you can imagine we weren't looking forward to being waist deep in cold muddy water but to be doing it for the future of our Cylch made every moment worthwhile.

“All of our children have, both past and present, attended here and I feel we are very lucky to have a Welsh medium setting on the doorstep.

“I feel it provides the children with a solid understanding of the Welsh language and the staff are fantastic at supporting both children and parents who's native language isn't Welsh like myself. Being only a stone’s throw away from the school, attending Cylch made the transition process easy for us as we had made good connections and were familiar with the environment.

“It's great to regularly see the art work and activities the children are participating in and hope that the fundraising can help contribute to future resources and various other things to help with running of Cylch.

“It's currently a very busy time for the children and the staff who are busy decorating ready for the Urdd Eisteddfod which is coming to the Meifod valley this May, this is very exciting for us and the community.”

The Cyclh Meithrin Pontrobert have said they would love to welcome more families to join.

They also hold a Ti a Fi (Parent and Toddler) session every Tuesday, term time 1.30pm-3pm.
