As a UK general election is expected later in 2024, major political parties have already named their candidates for Radnorshire’s parliamentary seat.
Here is a list - in alphabetical order by party - of the candidates running for the parliamentary seat of Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe in the General election.
The 2024 election could be particularly notable as boundary changes could alter the political landscape of certain constituencies in Wales.
Conservatives – Fay Jones
Current MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, Fay Jones said she was "delighted" after being reselected to stand in the area at the next election in February 2023.
She was reselected by the local Conservative party to stand as a candidate in southern Powys having held the seat since 2019.
On being announced as the party’s candidate for 2024, she said: “Representing Brecon and Radnorshire for the last three years has been the best job I could have ever asked for.
“So I’m over the moon to have been selected again for the new constituency of Brecon, Radnor and Cwmtawe.”
Green Party – Amerjit Kaur-Dhaliwal
In April the Brecon & Radnor Green Party announced that Amerjit Kaur-Dhaliwal would be standing as their parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general election in the constituency of Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.
Commenting via social media, the party said: “We are proud to announce our Green Party Candidate, Amerjit Kaur-Dhaliwal, standing for the Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe Constituency.
“Amerjit recently served as co-Deputy Leader of the Wales Green Party. We're fighting for a Fairer, Greener Wales.”
Labour – Matthew Dorrance
Councillor Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys was named as the Labour candidate for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.
Commenting on his candidacy via social media, Cllr Dorrance said: “The battle for the general election is just getting started. Grateful to Welsh Labour members for selecting me to take on the Tories here in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.”

Liberal Democrats – David Chadwick
David Chadwick was selected by local party members as the Lib Dems parliamentary candidate for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.
Commenting on his selection, he said: “Brecon and Radnorshire is one of the most beautiful areas of our country. Yet people in rural areas like this are angry at being taken for granted.
“They just can’t trust the Conservatives to do what is best for them, their families or their businesses. In contrast, people can see that their Liberal Democrat representatives are listening to them, and delivering to make Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe a better place to live.
Plaid Cymru – Emily Durrant-Munro
Former Green Party councillor Emily Durrant was selected as Plaid Cymru’s prospective parliamentary candidate in April 2024.
She served as the Powys County Councillor for the Llangors Ward between 2017 and 2022 and was the first Green Party County Councillor in Wales.
She defected to Plaid Cymru in 2021, saying at the time that the move was motivated by the realisation that social and environmental justice would “never be achieved” whilst Wales was a member of the UK and “ultimately governed by Westminster”.
Reform UK – Adam Hill
Adam Hill will reportedly be running as the Brecon Radnor and Cwm Tawe constituency candidate for the Reform UK party in the upcoming 2024 general election.
