Passengers want toilets and parking to improve Welshpool railway station, a survey has shown.

Welshpool rail users have been weighing in on possible improvements to the town’s railway station that could shape the future of the service or benefit regular users.

The suggestions were prompted by Ken Law, founder of the social media group Welshpool Rail Users, who asked group members what improvements they would priorities at the station.

He said: “last year we saw an additional shelter installed which had been asked for since before 2016.

“I raised with Transport for Wales that we had no call point on the station platform. Transport for Wales have confirmed that they will put in call points on all station platforms along the Cambrian Line that currently don't have them but haven't yet committed to a timescale.

“The issue of ownership, roles and responsibilities for the footbridge are almost resolved and I'm asking for a memorandum of understanding so that there is complete clarity going forward.

“So the question for you is what priorities and improvements would you like to see for Welshpool Station in the next year and going forward?”

Many commenters highlighted a lack of toilets and parking spaces as their main concerns surrounding the station, and added that the inclusion of either would be a welcome improvement to the station.

Karin Thompson commented: “Car parking continues to be an issue that puts me off using the station. Toilets and catering would be awesome but I can see that these are more ambitious and could create further issues.”
