A wave of community support has helped a bakery near Welshpool bounce back after a disappointing day.

Baked by Jaz, located at the Naisassance cafe within the grounds of Glansevern Hall Gardens in Refail, revealed on February 22 that they had gone through a difficult morning, still not seeing a single customer by 12pm.

The business, run by 24-year-old Jaz Hudson, first opened in October 2022, after growing her online business over lockdowns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Writing on Facebook, Jaz said it was “heartbreaking” to be low on customers and the business was left “wondering if we will even make it to summer if it carries on like this”.

However, after making the post a slew of comments and support alerted a wave of people to the bakery’s recent move and they saw a steep uptake in business a few days later.

Last Saturday (February 24), Jaz wrote: “Today has been crazy, and honestly, we were completely unprepared for how many of you would show up to support us, and we're completely overwhelmed, but so grateful.

“The community support that we have received has been immense, Steve and Becky who walked in as customers and ended up washing up during our peak time, you saved us today and you've left as dear friends to us.

“To everyone else who waited longer than usual times to show your support, we are so grateful. We have received lots of positive and constructive feedback which we are taking on board and are working on.”

The bakery relocated to Glansevern Hall Gardens in the autumn of 2023, after being on Stanley Street, Welshpool for its first year of business.
