A POWYS man is taking on an incredible next month by climbing the height of Mount Everest… FOUR times.
Stephen ‘Becksy’ Price is planning to walk 1 million steps in March in a mountainous bid to raise vital funds for Welsh children’s charity Tŷ Hafan.
Stephen’s steps will only include walking to and from the summit of the iconic Pen y Fan. As if he hasn’t given himself enough of a challenge already, during the 31 days of March he will attempt four 10YFan ascents – the equivalent of actually climbing Everest.
Pen y Fan is 2,907 feet tall (886 metres) and Everest is 29,029ft (8,848m), so 10 ascents of Pen y Fan equates to climbing Everest once.
Stephen took on the 10YFan challenge a few years ago and raised the best part of £20,000 for the Dreams and Wishes charity, which like Ty Hafan assists seriously ill children and their families.

“Knowing how difficult the 10YFan challenge was last time around, four 10YFans within four weeks is really taking this fundraiser to another level and I really hope this will encourage the generosity I received during my last challenge,” said Stephen, 42, who lives in the shadow of Pen y Fan, in the village of Libanus.
“So, this little challenge within a challenge equates to 160 miles over four days up and down Pen y fan 40 times in around 50 hours.”
Stephen, a sales director at Bbi UK (Beacons Business Interiors) in nearby Brecon, will be using various routes around the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) to complete his task – hoping it and the added 10YFan aspect will inspire people to dig deep with their donations.
“Overall, through the month, I am literally walking 500 miles to and from the summit, this would be roughly 110 times, although I will be using longer routes to make up the mileage,” added Stephen.
“Walking 1 million steps, especially with the added difficulty of completing four 10YFan challenges within a month, is both physically demanding and mentally challenging.
“This is my commitment to supporting Ty Hafan and the important work they do for children and their families.
“Tŷ Hafan is a leading and much-loved charity that provides life-changing care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families who live in Wales.
“I hope that you will consider making a donation to support me. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.
“Together, we can help provide them with the care, support and love they need during their most difficult times.”
You can support Stephen on this epic challenge and help raise funds for an amazing charity, which does such important work supporting children and their families through the most difficult times of their lives.
