WELCOME to a trip through time to Powys life in the 1970s.
We have delved deep into the archive to share a wonderful selection of pictures from the past for you all to enjoy.
Hopefully these pictures will raise a smile and perhaps even bring people who may not have seen one another in decades closer together.
We love sharing pictures from the past and encourage all our beloved readers to have a look through their own albums and share with us by emailing gavin.grosvenor@newsquest.co.uk today.
We begin with a picture of Llanfyllin High School pupil Peter Hughes who won a national newspaper’s competition to be sent to the moon on a space shuttle in 1977. We are not sure whether Peter ever made it to the moon – but we’d love to hear from him either way to explain this competition!
Next we share a picture of members of Newtown Hospital League of Friends from 1976.
Caersws Youth Club netball team won the North Powys U16s Cup in 1976. Recognise any stars of the court?

- Plan to open medieval byway to 4x4 traffic slammed as 'environmental disaster'
- 'Abusive' Powys farmer who ignored bird flu rules during outbreak hit with fine
- Proposal for nine houses on 19th Century Mid Wales pub withdrawn by developers
We also share a lovely picture of an unnamed couple from Welshpool who appear delighted with their pet Muscovy duck. We have no other details about this picture so if anyone can shed any light on why this duck raised such a smile please let us know.
A cracking picture from 1977 shows Ethel Edwards from Llanfyllin with family and friends after salvaging a remarkable 78 tons of paper as part of a Red Cross appeal.
We also share a picture of pupils and governors bidding farewell to Berriew Primary School teacher Glyn Jones in 1976.
Our next picture is from a wrestling event at Welshpool’s former Pola Cinema in 1970.
Linda Lloyd from Llanidloes was crowned Miss Mid Wales in 1970 and we share a picture of her with her trophy.
Newtown’s 1974 carnival queen was Jane Griffiths and we share a picture from the big night in the Elephant and Castle Hotel. Do you recognise the other people pictured? Perhaps you remember Newtown Carnival from 1974?
The carnival is returning after many years in hiatus this summer so hopefully a youngster from the town will experience the same pride and joy as Jane did in 1974.
We share a picture of several talented writers from Machynlleth High School in 1976 for our next picture. Recognise any familiar faces?
We complete our trip through the 1970s with a picture of Newtown High School Choir members in 1976.
Do you recognise any of these talented singers? Get in touch with your former choir mates today and begin sharing memories of the past.
