A SPEEDY driver has been fined and handed three points after being clocked doing 82 miles an hour in a 60 zone in Powys.
Craig Robert John Brown, 41, was driving a Kia Sportage on the A44 near Nantmel on June 4 last year, when he was caught by a police speed gun.
He pleaded guilty by post but requested a hearing at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court this week so he could put forward mitigation.
Brown, of Hazelwood Close, Kidderminster, told the court on Wednesday, February 14: “I received the notice, admitted I was the driver and had every intention to pay.
“But I had several issues at the time: I’d lost my job, I was out of work for three months, I was homeless.

“I was cut off from my phone as I was unable to pay the bill.
“Further points would result in me losing my job as I drive for work. Also, I wouldn’t get to see my kids.”
Brown said he had six points on his licence at the time of this offence. “With everything going on it went completely out of my head (to sort this out).”
Magistrates fined Brown £284 and told him to pay a £114 surcharge, awarding no costs. They also placed 3 points on his licence.
