McDonald's famous Golden Arches were spotted in Powys last week – but the fast food giant has denied it is opening another branch in the county.
Just as Llandrindod residents were thinking they could be joining Newtown and Welshpool in boasting a McDonald’s, the renowned restaurant chain has quashed rumours of the impending arrival of Big Macs and McMuffins.
Rumours spread that McDonald’s was opening up a restaurant or drive-thru after the Golden Arches sign was spotted in town on Thursday, February 1, and a photo was posted to the Llandrindod Solutions Facebook page.
The image attached clearly showed a McDonald’s sign, seemingly perched on the back of a flatbed lorry in the town's Aldi supermarket car park.

However, the chain has doused the hopes of Radnorshire locals, by confirming there are no plans for a Llandrindod restaurant.
“We can confirm there are no plans to bring a new restaurant to Llandrindod Wells at present,” said a McDonald’s spokesperson.
“So, we can only assume the sign was on its way to an existing restaurant.”
The post was met with a mixture of excitement and ire by local residents.
“I wish we had a McDonald's in town,” wrote one user, while another replied: “I hope that this town doesn't get a McDonald’s.”
Another local wrote: “I love it that we don’t have (Greggs aside) fast food chains here. The kids are healthier here without this rubbish.”
And another added: “It would be good to have some more shops that actually sell good food and fruit and veg instead of more unhealthy rubbish.”
But one user also said the lorry in the car park was likely there as workers were fixing the illuminated Aldi sign at the Station Crescent store.
