EMOTIONAL support charity Samaritans is hosting a recruitment drive as they search for new volunteers to join their Powys team.
Powys Samaritans, which is based in Llandrindod Wells, is running its next training course in early March. And the local charity is hoping residents living in any part of Powys can help add to their team of listening volunteers.
Are you a good listener? Can you spare a few hours a week? Samaritans is looking for ordinary people to be there to listen to people who are having a difficult time and really need someone to talk to; someone who is non-judgemental, understanding and compassionate.
One of the listening volunteers at the Powys branch is Jack Ruby, who has been a listening volunteer for around five years.
“I have been a Samaritan for about five years,” said Jack, who lives near Presteigne.

“I felt that after my retirement I would like to be able to utilise some of my skills to help and support others.
“Becoming a Samaritan takes some time and involves attending training sessions, working in groups ad participating in role play and also working on your own and with interactive online tutorials.
“The process takes quite a few months and you definitely need training irrespective of whatever you have done before but this, and support from other Samaritans is given in abundance.”
