A Llanfyllin firefighter has been promoted to crew manager, making him one of the youngest to ever hold the position in Mid Wales.
On January 22, Llanfyllin Fire Station announced that 22-year-old Josh Greer had been promoted to crew manager at the station which, according to Llanfyllin Fire Station, makes him one of the youngest people to be appointed as crew manager in the history of Mid and West Wales Fire Service.
Having been with the station for four years, Josh recently underwent an intense eight day long managers training course to finalise his preparation, in addition to his years of work as a regular firefighter.
Writing on social media, Llanfyllin Fire Station said: “Congratulations to Josh Greer on being promoted to crew manager at Llanfyllin, Josh 22 possibly one of the youngest crew managers ever in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
“Josh has trained hard since joining when he was 18, and recently went on an 8 day intense managers training course.
“Josh is a shining example of a very keen member of a Fire and Rescue Service and we are all very proud of Josh’s achievement in such a very short amount of time.”

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire Service said: “Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service congratulates Josh Greer on becoming one of its youngest-ever Crew Managers. The dedication and commitment of CM Greer and the rest of the crew is admirable and exemplary.
“At a time where fire and rescue services across the UK are facing difficulties in recruiting On-Call Firefighters, it’s heartening to see young people like CM Greer who take an active interest and want to play their part in protecting their local community.
“The role of a Crew Manager includes overseeing members of the firefighting crew and providing the necessary leadership, supervision and development required.
“As well as providing emergency response, Crew Managers and their fellow crew members are also involved in supporting programmes to increase safety education and minimise risks to the community.
“More information on how to become an On-Call Firefighter, including how to book a space on a taster Firefighter Experience Day, can be found on our website.”
