A Machynlleth based bike company is celebrating its fifth anniversary, taking a look back at their journey since the venture began in 2019.

As Atherton Bikes marks five years since the competition bike company first launched, a collaboration between experienced mountain bikers in the Atherton family and a team of engineers working in composites technology.

The team partnered with renowned suspension designer Dave Weagle and Dragon’s Den’s Piers Linney to create their range of bikes, utilising ground breaking additive manufacturing technologies and lug and tube construction with the aim of delivering strong, perfect-fit bikes.

The team at Atherton Bikes said that some of the high points of the past five years include Rachel Atherton taking the fledgling company’s first World Cup win aboard the prototype AM200, a World Cup victory by Andi Kolb at Leogang which was the first World Cup win and the first Men’s Elite gold for the brand, as well as the launch of new bikes and components.

Some of those new models, such as World Cup winning AM.200 and award- winning AM.150, were designed, manufactured and tested in Machynlleth, saying that the hand-cut natural trails the Dyfi trail network were the perfect testing ground.

Atherton Bikes CEO Dan Brown said “Hard to believe it’s been five years in some ways it feels like five months, in others a decade.
