A POWYS YFC organisation is jumping on the huge popularity of darts by hosting its own unique version of the World Darts Championship this weekend.
Amidst the chaos of the festive celebrations over Christmas and the New Year, many of us would have found time to sit comfortably, glued to the TV screens and watching the arrows being flung at Alexandra Palace – affectionately known as the ‘Ally Pally’.
This year’s PDC World Darts Championship was won by Luke Humphries – but it was 16-year-old sensation Luke Littler who truly captivated the audience, both at the Ally Pally and at home.
He made it all the way to the final, but his fairytale ending was quashed by Humphries who won 7-4.
Radnor YFC does: Ally Pally Darts takes place at the Royal Welsh Showground, near Builth Wells, this Saturday, January 27.
After the fanfare of the real thing, Radnor YFC’s version takes place at the Old Food Hall. And in true YFC style, the organisation has been sprinkling its own magic on the event – including hosting a fancy dress competition on the night.
It wouldn’t be a darts event without fans in fancy dress, and there will be prizes for the best individual, best duo and best group costumes.
Radnor YFC have also been introducing the competitors in entertaining style on Facebook, complete with nicknames and bios.
So, expect to see Adam ‘The Nuisance’ Watson, Raymond ‘Raymbo’ Powell and Michael ‘Big Mike’ Morgan, among others, striding to the oche this weekend – maybe even with their own entrance music and flamboyant shirt.
Earlybird tickets are available for £12 at https://www.ticketebo.co.uk/radnor-yfc/ally-pally-darts but you can also get tickets from the Radnor YFC office or talk to a current member of your club.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Refreshments will be available from Slice of Radnor. Over 18's only.
