A beloved Powys fish and chip shop is up for another award.

Machynlleth’s multi-award winning Hennighan’s Fish and Chip shop, has previously been named one of the best fish and chip shops in Wales and has now reached the final for another accolade at the National Fish and Chip Awards.

The Machynlleth stalwart is one of three UK chips shops have been named as finalists for the Marketing & Innovation Award, for their ability to catch the attention of customers with compelling campaigns.

Entrants submitted an in-depth written response to a series of questions about a marketing initiative launched within the last 12 months.

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers and awards organiser, said of the finalists: “With a variety of takeaway temptations to compete with across our towns and cities, it’s a must for chip shops to be able to stand out among a diverse food offering to secure repeat business.

“The Marketing & Innovation category has been really inspiring, as it’s shown how teams have collaborated, shared ideas and brought bags of creative flair. The opportunity to do something fun and unexpected is exactly what makes the chip shop industry so special.”

A panel of industry specialists reviewed how crisp the execution of the campaigns was, the innovation and impact of the campaign, as well how GDPR regulations were met.

Organisers said: “The intense scrutiny of all the details sets the awards apart, with the meticulous approach intended to motivate businesses to reach for the next level of success with its operational standards, customer service and delivery of delicious food”.

Hennighan’s will be going up against Welsh opposition in Cardiff’s Zero Plus and Scotland The Real Food Café, Tyndrum.

The finalists have been invited to the awards ceremony next month on 28 February at the Park Plaza Westminster where the winner will be revealed.
