BUILTH Wells Christmas Tree Festival included a total of 29 trees last year, all from different local organisations.
Various groups and charities took part in the festival, held in St Mary’s Church from December 18-29.
First place went to the ‘Woolly Wednesdays’, a group of local ladies who meet on Wednesday evenings and knitted over 90 hats, which they then formed on a structure, into the shape of a Christmas tree. The hats are all now being generously donated to the homeless.
Second place went to Builth Wells Ladies Choir, who decorated their tree with the theme of

‘A partridge in a pear tree’, comprising of felt decorations made in the shape of pear fruit,
in yellow and green colours with a cut out partridge image in the centre of the tree.
Third place was to St Mary’s Guild of Bellringers, for their interpretation of ‘campanology’
with small bell lights and other items, including the type of rope used for ringing.
Each of the three winning groups received a photograph, a framed certificate and an engraved medal, enamelled with a Christmas tree motif.
The winners were chosen by public vote from the visitors to the festival. Thanks to all who helped organise the event and to those who took part.
