Aldi is celebrating a Welshpool worker, who has climbed mountains for charity, for 20 years’ service.
Aldi has thanked Matt Lewis who is assistant store manager at Welshpool for two decades of service which has included completing the fearsome three peaks challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Commenting on his time at Aldi, Matt said: “I’ve really enjoyed getting stuck into my work with Aldi over the past 20 years and the time has flown by. A highlight has to be doing the Three Peaks challenge last July to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.”
The challenge saw him summit Snowdon in the north, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the south whilst raising money for the charity which funds specialised nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them throughout treatment.

Matt first joined the supermarket’s Oswestry store in 2003. Assuming several roles across various stores since then, he now works as an assistant store manager in Welshpool’s Mill Lane store.
A spokesperson for Aldi said: “From taking part in charity events for Aldi’s dedicated charity, Teenage Cancer Trust, to supporting fellow colleagues, Matt is an integral part of Aldi’s Welshpool team.
“A well-known face amongst colleagues and customers alike, Matt has seen Aldi continue to grow and invest in the community over the years and become the UK’s fourth largest supermarket last year.”
Laura Domoné, regional managing director at Aldi UK, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to all of our colleagues and take great pride in celebrating their achievements.
“Colleagues like Matt have played a key part in our growth and success, and I would like to thank him for his contributions.
“Our colleagues allow us to connect with wider communities and continue to provide the high-quality service that customers keep coming back for.”
When asked what the one Aldi product he couldn’t live without was, Matt said: “It is impossible to choose one… sausage rolls, frozen lemon sole and Birra Mapelli. But not at the same time of course.”
