Welshpool Town Council has received a grant that will go towards improving the town’s memorial garden.
Welshpool’s memorial garden, located in Howell Drive off Severn Road, will be improved for both people and wildlife backed by the £5,000 grant.
The funding comes from the Local Places for Nature community and town council grants scheme, an initiative intended to enable communities in Wales to restore and enhance nature.
A spokesperson for Welshpool Town Council said: “This proposal will both create new opportunities for nature as well as enhance what’s there.
“The Howell Drive memorial garden is on lots of people’s doorsteps and used by all ages.
“Alex of the Operations team was approached by a member of the public and the grant was grown out of that.”

The garden was constructed and designed to serve as a quiet contemplation area and as a lasting memorial to those who lost their lives in the two world wars and other wars since.
There is a memorial stone located in the gardens in memory of Cpl Paul Thomas who lost his life in conflict.
Remembrance events are held in the garden every year in November, so the grant will go towards enhancing the space for as a nature space as well as for those visiting the memorial year after year.
