Castle Caereinion scooped the double honour of Best Kept Village in Powys and in the Montgomeryshire District Council area in 1976.
Four Crosses woman Ethel Edwards raised more than £1,000 for the Red Cross in 1977 after salvaging more than 78tons of waste paper over a seven year period.
In 1977 Llanfyllin schoolboy Peter Hughes won a trip to the moon. As part of the prize in a Sunday newspaper competition, the 13 year old was promised a seat should a passenger space shuttle service ever be set up.
