Llanfyllin marked the start of December with its annual Christmas market, which featured a lights switch on, dozens of stalls and entertainment.

On Friday, December 1, Llanfyllin High Street was filled lined with stalls from local businesses as part of its annual Christmas market in conjunction with its official Christmas lights switch on ceremony.

In addition to the market and lights, the event also featured entertainment in the form of musicians Mike Harding and Jack Carroll, as well as the Penybontfawr Choir who closed out the evening, in addition to a variety of other acts who entertained the crowds throughout the afternoon and evening, before and after the switch on at 6pm.

Llanfyllin mayor Cllr Peter Lewis said: “It was a fantastic night, filled with an excellent crowd who turned out in strong numbers even with the bitterly cold weather.

“The event was very busy and we received some very positive feedback about how it was staged and put together, which is exactly what we want as it means we can put that towards building on the 2023 market for next year.

“I’d like to extend a very grateful thank you to the town’s Christas market committee for all their hard work in organising such a wonderful event, as well as the team who did the heavy lifting to set up the decorations and layout.”

The large Christmas tree in Llanfyllin town square was set up on November 26, Rhys Jenkins , Gruff Jones and John Lewis installing the tree donated by  Clogau Gold, the owners of Allt y Gadair wood.

A smaller Christmas tree was also erected in the town’s memorial garden and was adorned with decorations crafted by pupils from Ysgol Llanfyllin.

Dozens of stalls from local businesses lined the high street during the event, in addition to many shops in the town centre who stayed open during later hours to meet the extra crowds of people in town for the event.

Cllr Lewis added: “Most of all I would like to thank the business owners and stall holders who were open for the event. There simply would not be a Christmas market without them. I’m very pleased to say that the feedback we have had is that many did very well from the night as well.”
