A RECENTLY opened bike shop in Machynlleth will be moving premises following successful first year of business.

Mach 10 Cycles, currently located on Heol Maengwyn, will be moving across the street to a larger premises after opening in June.

Owner Isaac Gibson first launched the business as a pop-up shop repairing bikes at the Dyfi Bike Park, but aimed to fill a gap in Machynlleth as the town has been left without a shop servicing bikes for over 10 years.

He said: “I’ve always worked in the cycling industry, from building tracks to working in wheel production in Canada.

“I noticed there was a real need for a bike shop in Machynlleth, especially with the Dyfi bike park up and running. It’s a prominent area for cyclists but previously had nothing to service them. There simply wasn’t another shop offering those kinds of services between Newtown and Aberystwyth and I’m pleased to fill that gap in the market.

“Having taken note of the growing need for something that could service the mountain biking community, I also felt that they deserved an independent outlet that offers a good customer experience. The tent was cold and wet, but it served its purpose of helping me get to know the area and its bike riders.

“I spent time working from a pop-up shop at the bike park, a small set-up where I would fix people’s bikes, which gave me plenty of experience to develop a vision of what I would like the shop to be.

“I aimed to make it a personable and friendly experience, one that would engage with the customers rather than getting them in and out as quickly as possible.”

Mr gibson says he hopes to move into the new premises before the end of the year and hopes the larger space will allow him to offer extra services and products such as E-bikes and rentals.

He added: “It’s been my first time running a business on my own and that has brought plenty of challenges. But you learn on the job and I’m incredibly happy with how far it’s come.

“I feel when a shop is appreciated by its customers you can see how it’s reflected in the way they view it, and I definitely get that sense from the community here.

“It used to be hard for anyone with a broken or damaged bike here, but I’m happy to offer a service that’s been lacking in Machynlleth.”
