CHRISTMAS has come early for one Powys community, after it was gifted a giant tree by a local business.
Leigh Price posted a picture on Monday (November 20) of a 30-foot Christmas tree growing on land at his woodland holiday park, just outside Builth Wells, saying he would give it away for free as it was becoming an eyesore where it was.
Leigh runs Celtic Woodland Holidays and the Bug Out survival shop, based in woodland just outside Builth, in Maesmynis.
He said the 12-year-old tree has been cut down and donated to the community of Painscastle, where it will stand over the festive period outside the village hall.
“30ft Christmas tree FREE to whoever wants it. It has to come down this year so if (you) want it it’s yours,” read the message that accompanied a picture of the nine metre high tree on Facebook.
“The tree is going to a local community. It is coming down as it’s in the wrong place and grown too big and I thought it would be ideal for someone this Christmas.”
He added: “The tree is probably 12 years old. It’s next to our sun deck at our woodland glamping park, which it has started to encroach on.
“Plus, in a few more years, it will obstruct our view form the house so it has to go. We will be planting more trees to replace this one but in a better position.”
