An official detour of nearly 70 miles has been put in place after a hole appeared in a main road in Powys.
The A470 near Talerddig was closed immediately yesterday afternoon (Thursday, November 9) after a major hole appeared on the side of the road – leading to the road between Carno and Dolfach to be closed and a diversion set up.

The official diversion put in place by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road agency will see motorists go via a route via Llanidloes, down the A44, up the A487 and swinging back through Machynlleth - a route of 66.5 miles.
It appears that drivers are not taking this route and are instead taking alternative side roads which has led to large amounts of traffic in the village of Bont Dolgadfan.

According to local county councillor, Elwyn Vaughan, the closure is set to be in force until at least next week.
“It will continue to be closed to enable emergency work to be done in the coming days with the aim of reopening with the lights,” said Councillor Vaughan.
"It will therefore be closed until the middle of next week. I've asked Senedd Members Russell George and Cefin Campbell AS/MS to lobby for funding to have a long-term resolution.”
The closure has also led to disruption to local public transport routes. Tanat Valley Coaches confirmed that the T12 service between Machynlleth and Newtown would not be running.
Lloyds Coaches confirmed changes to services and said in a statement that the “MC161 School bus to Bro Hyddgen will start in Llanbrynmair and operate to Machynlleth” and that the “ALN 49 - will not operate”.
